Looking for a gardening bestie? You found her!

About Me

Hi friend! My name is Ariel McLanahan. I’m a home gardener and backyard homesteader in Central Missouri. I live with my husband, Brett and our two sons, Karson and Luke. Rounding out our family is a golden retriever, Hannah, a snowball cat named Sassy and a tri-pawd boxer called Sadie.

I keep a garden with 14 raised beds, a few in-ground spaces and an ever-growing assortment of containers. I have experience growing annual vegetables, perennial fruits and veggies as well as a bit of fruit tree know-how. Brett and I built my garden from the ground up. I’ve spent years building the soil health while committing to organic practices.

I have always shared my gardening endeavors on my personal social media accounts. The recurring theme I found was the stream of comments from friends and family asking garden questions. Wishing they knew how to grow food. Seeing if I could help them troubleshoot what was going wrong with their plants. That led me to the idea of teaching others how to garden. I had the knowledge and the experience. Why not do the most good I can with that and help others to succeed?

I had been posting videos on TikTok. I found that my content started to pick up speed when I shifted the focus from “Oh look at me and my garden” to advice and tutorials that people could apply to their own gardens. I grew my audience by nearly 200,000 followers accross TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and Facebook in 12 months. It has been a wild ride and I’m thankful for every bit of success I have been blessed with.

Growing our own food is a skill we all used to have as a population. There is a resurgence of people want to regain that knowledge today. So that’s my mission... Teach people how to grow food, raise livestock, cook from scratch and even make an income contributing to the gardening and homesteading community. We’re going to have fun while we do it. There will be good music and silly dancing. There will be humor. There will be positivity and community and friendship. If that sounds like something you’re up for, then I’m glad you found me. Now let’s get our hands in some soil and grow some food!
